Serendipity

Serendipity. That's how I explain my life. It's my favorite word: The faculty of making fortunate and unexpected discoveries by accident, as defined by the dictionary. My name is Kristin...at 43 I'm starting over like an infant learning to walk; like a teenager that's being told "pick what you'd like to do with the rest of your life" and then embarking on making it happen.

For some reason, it's much scarier at this stage in an altered life. People say I have experienced a lot for my age -- some have used the word "endured." I'd like to look at it as events that have made me stronger, given me spirit. I've been encouraged by many to share these experiences with all of you. I have resisted blogging as I am a fairly private person, (seriously, who has time to read this stuff?) but it is the way of the world and I feel I can offer potential solutions to health mysteries, and be a sounding board for daily challenges. If this blog helps even one person in need, then I will feel blessed to have put it all out there!

I have had undeniable miracles happen -- last year I went from being bed-ridden with over two year's worth of excrutiating pain, to walking within minutes from a life-saving discovery that affects more people than anyone knows.

I have found that being open-minded and following my instincts has served me far better than caving in to what makes "sense" on paper and what others may think. How many of you have been told your blood work is perfectly normal yet you can barely get through a typical day?

I have gone to physical and spiritual places that were previously unimaginable, and now I follow where I am led, and feel blessed to have a strong inner voice guiding me on this journey.

My most recent life-altering event that few words can capture, was the sudden and silent death of my 47-year-old husband, Ken. On a Friday night in July, he fell asleep on the couch with our gentle lab-husky, Barney, and went to heaven. I discovered my husband long-dead at 6AM Staurday morning. The experience changed me immediately and irreparably. There is no going back, no undoing it, no do-overs.

Though I am labled a widow now, I still feel like a wife, and want to share the good and the bad, the laughter and the tears with all of you, to gain strength and give it back. "There are a thousand tiny miracles happening each day." This I know to be true.
